We are a provider of NHS mental healthlearning disabilities and substance misuse (drug and alcohol) services in Derby city and Derbyshire county. We also provide a wide range of children’s services. We employ more than 2,800 staff providing services from a number of community bases across the whole of Derbyshire. Across the county and the city, we serve a combined population of approximately one million people.

Successful partnership working is essential to the delivery of many of our services. The Trust works in close collaboration with our commissioners and fellow providers of local healthcare services, together with local authority colleagues at Derby City Council and Derbyshire County Council, and voluntary and community sector organisations. Derbyshire Healthcare is an active partner in Joined Up Care Derbyshire, a partnership of health and care organisations working collectively to address challenges and improve the level of joined up working within the local health and care economy.

The Trust provides services to a diverse population, including areas of wealth alongside significant deprivation. The Trust’s catchment area includes both city and rural populations, with over 70 different languages being spoken.

Foundation Trust Status

Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust was established on 1 February 2011 when Monitor, the Independent Regulator of NHS Foundation Trusts, under its powers under Section 35 of the National Health Service Act 2006, authorised Derbyshire Mental Health Services NHS Trust to become a Foundation Trust.

Foundation Trust status gives us more freedom to shape services to meet the needs of people in Derbyshire.

All providers of NHS funded services are required to hold and comply with the Monitor provider Licence. The full report authorising our Foundation Trust status can be found on the gov.uk website. As a Foundation Trust we are required to build a membership which is as representative of the community we serve as possible. Members receive regular updates on our news and upcoming events. They are also represented by a Council of Governors.
